Improving Quality and Coordination of Care for ARPKD/CHF

ARPKD/CHF Represented at Conference for Children with Special Needs and Their Families

Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease (ARPKD) and Congenital Hepatic Fibrosis (CHF) was represented in Baltimore on May 18-19, 2011 at the Improving Quality and Coordination of Care and Services for Children with Special Needs and their Families Conference.

The New York Mid-Atlantic Consortium (NYMAC) for Genetic and Newborn Screening Services and the Wadsworth Center, hence New York State Department of Health, a science-based community committed to protecting and improving health, sponsored an ARPKD/CHF Alliance representative to attend.

With a diverse audience of 150 attendees, the agenda included clinical, public health, advocacy, and consumer topics to help advance personal and professional expertise of all participants.

Showcased were recent accomplishments of NYMAC’s regional collaborative programs and initiatives from their eight-state region (Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania,Virginia and West Virginia).

Breakout sessions and round table discussions of particular interest to ARPKD/CHF included: Policy and Trends, Health Care Reform Impact on Special Needs, Newborn Screening, Community Based Services, Medical Homes, Science Update, Disparities and Diversities, Consumer Driven Change, Access to Services, Quality Care Coordination, and Transition (pediatric to adult care).
